Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil has ended his indefinite hunger strike after the Maharashtra government assured him that most of his demands regarding reservation for the Maratha community would be fulfilled.
Jarange Patil, who had been on strike for several days, announced the decision following detailed discussions with senior state officials. The government has reportedly agreed to issue fresh notifications and take legislative steps to secure quota benefits for the community under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.
Supporters of the movement welcomed the breakthrough, describing it as a significant moment in the long-standing demand for Maratha reservation. Thousands had gathered in solidarity during the protest, and many hailed Patil’s persistence as instrumental in pushing the government towards action.
While the state has agreed to most of the points raised, Jarange Patil reminded the administration that he would continue to closely monitor the implementation process. He also urged the community to stay united until all promises are met.
The resolution marks a temporary pause in the agitation, though observers note that the issue of reservation for the Marathas remains politically sensitive in Maharashtra.
