A Thane court has sentenced Pramod Kanha Patil to life imprisonment for the brutal assault on his wife, Vaijayanti Patil, and their son, Pruthvi Patil, in October 2019. The incident occurred in their home in Thane, Maharashtra, when Pramod, reportedly a jobless alcoholic, attacked his wife with a sickle, causing 28 life-threatening injuries, including multiple skull fractures and brain injuries. Their younger son, Pruthvi, who attempted to intervene, sustained injuries to his hand and forehead.

The defense argued that the injuries were accidental, suggesting Vaijayanti fell onto a sharp utensil rack. However, the court rejected this claim, stating that 28 injuries could not have resulted from such a fall. The presence of blood-stained clothes and the sickle used in the attack corroborated the prosecution's case.

Additional Sessions Judge GG Bhansali emphasized that the nature of the injuries, the weapon used, and the severity of the blows indicated the accused's intent. Despite Pramod's plea for leniency, citing improved conduct in jail, the court found no reason to grant it, stating that undue sympathy would undermine public confidence in the justice system.
