Desk orrespondent , Lucknow - A 25-year-old vegetable vendor was arrested on Friday for allegedly strangling his wife to death over suspicions of an extramarital affair, stuffing her body into a trolley bag, and dumping it near the Indira Dam in Lucknow. The accused, identified as Altaf alias Kallu, subsequently approached the Chinhat police to file a fake missing person’s report. Officers grew suspicious during questioning, leading to a detailed interrogation where Altaf reportedly confessed to the murder.
According to Chinhat Station House Officer Dinesh Chandra Mishra, the crime occurred around 2:00 AM on Thursday following a heated argument. Altaf allegedly strangled his 24-year-old wife, Yasmeen, inside their residence near Ramlila Maidan. Investigators revealed that the couple had a history of frequent disputes regarding Altaf’s suspicion that Yasmeen was involved with a close relative. At approximately 5:00 AM on Friday, the accused transported the concealed body using a battery-operated rickshaw to dump it near the Jagaur area.
Following the confession, the police successfully recovered the victim's body from the designated spot near the dam. A forensic team was deployed to collect evidence and conduct a thorough examination of the crime scene. Officials confirmed that the accused is currently in custody for further interrogation, and legal proceedings have been initiated based on a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
