n Lucknow’s Saadatganj area, a 26-year-old man named Ali Abbas was brutally beaten to death by his neighbours over suspicions surrounding his interfaith relationship. The tragic incident took place during the night of September 22–23, when Ali Abbas was allegedly lured to the house of his neighbours under the pretext of discussing his relationship with their sister.

The accused—Himalaya Prajapati, Sonu, and Saurabh Prajapati—reportedly attacked Abbas with rods.  Abbas sustained severe head injuries in the assault and was rushed to a local hospital by police. However, he succumbed to his injuries soon after.

Following a complaint filed by Abbas’s father, Arif Zamir, the police took Himalaya and Saurabh into custody. During questioning, both admitted their involvement and claimed their anger stemmed from disapproval of Abbas’s relationship with their sister. The third accused, Sonu, remains absconding. Authorities have sent the body for post-mortem examination, and legal proceedings are in progress.

This case has stirred outrage and concern over interfaith relations and honour violence. Law enforcement is facing questions on how such violent prejudices continue to result in fatal outcomes. The investigation will also seek to determine if there were failures in preventing this escalation.
