Kolkata is set to host its most spectacular Red Road Durga Puja Carnival on October 5, with 113 Puja committees participating in the procession.  The event will span the stretch from Fort William to Akashvani Bhavan, featuring tableaux, floats, cultural performances, and the last public display of Durga idols before immersion.  Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to preside over the grand show.

To manage the crowds and ensure smooth flow, Kolkata Police have announced extensive road closures and traffic diversions. Red Road itself will be off-limits to vehicles from midnight to 9 a.m., and again from 2 p.m. until the carnival ends.  Key roads like AJC Bose Road, Kidderpore Road, Chowringhee, Mayo Road, Queensway and Esplanade Ramp will face intermittent restrictions.  Parking will also be barred in important arterial stretches beginning at noon until dispersal.

Public transport will play a key role: six extra metro trains along the Blue and Green Lines will run to handle the surge.  Spectators are advised to alight at Esplanade or Park Street and walk into the viewing zones.
