Police in Kolkata have arrested the owners of a century-old gun shop for allegedly selling firearms without proper authorization. The shop, which had been operating in the city for decades, is now under investigation after authorities discovered irregularities in its trade practices.
According to officials, the arrests were made following a detailed probe into illegal arms circulation in the city. Investigators allege that the shop’s owners were involved in the sale of weapons that were not accounted for in official records. Several firearms and documents have been seized as part of the investigation.
The case has drawn significant attention as the store was one of the oldest licensed arms shops in Kolkata. Authorities said that any misuse of such a long-standing license was a serious violation and posed a threat to public safety.
Police are now tracing buyers who may have obtained illegal weapons from the shop. The arrested owners are being questioned to identify possible links with larger arms networks.
Officials have assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty, stressing that no one would be spared for violating arms regulations, regardless of the history or reputation of their business.
