Kathmandu airport shut down after violent protests erupt in Nepal

Authorities in Nepal ordered the immediate closure of Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Monday following a surge of violent protests across the country. The demonstrations, which began over political and economic grievances, quickly escalated, leading to clashes between protesters and security forces.

The decision to suspend flights was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety and to prevent any potential disruption at the country’s busiest airport. Airlines operating both domestic and international routes have been instructed to halt services until further notice.

Protesters blocked major roads in the capital and surrounding areas, while police were deployed in large numbers to control the situation. Reports suggest several people have been injured in the clashes.

Officials said the airport will reopen once law and order is restored, but no timeline has been given yet. The closure has left hundreds of travelers stranded, with airlines working on rescheduling flights.
