Karnataka Grants Menstrual Leave to Women Employees Across Sectors

In a progressive move, the Karnataka government has approved one day of menstrual leave per month for women employees across various sectors, including garment manufacturing and Information Technology. This decision, announced during a cabinet meeting on October 9, 2025, aims to enhance workplace welfare for women.

State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil confirmed the approval, stating that women working in diverse sectors are now entitled to at least one day of leave during their menstrual cycle. Additionally, the cabinet cleared the Karnataka Labour Welfare Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which expands financial benefits under six labor welfare initiatives, including improved educational assistance for employees in the organized sector and their families.
