In Kanpur’s Devanagar area, a tragic discovery was made when the body of Kishan Mohan Shukla, a 49-year-old labourer, was found in his locked room about five to six days after he had passed away. The case came to light only after tenants noticed a foul odor emanating from his room and alerted Kishan’s elder brother and the police. Police say Kishan lived alone; he was unmarried and had a history of mental illness. His parents had died some years ago. Live Hindustan reports that neither his brother nor any other close relative had realized or checked on him during the days following his death.

When investigators arrived, they had to break down the locked door to enter the room, where they found the body. His viscera has been sent for detailed forensic examination, and an autopsy has been scheduled in order to determine the exact cause of death. Kishan’s sister, Usha, claims she was not informed about her brother’s passing. She has also alleged that the house, which is in their mother’s name, was secretly sold by their brother Achyut Shukla, who occupies a different floor in the same building.

The case raises concerns about social isolation, negligence, and mental health support, especially for people living alone. The local police are continuing their investigation, awaiting autopsy results.
