In a significant strategic shift, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has announced it will contest the 2025 Bihar assembly elections as part of the INDIA bloc. This marks the party's first foray into Bihar's electoral politics under the opposition alliance's banner, after previously being kept out of such coalitions and contesting independently.
Negotiations for seats are currently underway, with a final decision expected soon. The party has scaled back its initial demand from 12 seats to a more flexible seven or eight, targeting constituencies such as Tarapur, Katoria, Banka, and Chakai. JMM leaders have indicated a willingness to accept fewer seats to ensure the bloc's cohesion. The move follows high-level discussions between Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
This inclusion is seen as a boost to opposition unity, particularly after Rahul Gandhi’s recent 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' showcased a united front in Bihar. Analysts believe JMM’s participation could help consolidate anti-NDA votes by reducing fragmentation.
