Jharkhand’s Education Minister, Ramdas Soren, passed away on Thursday at the age of 62, leaving the state in mourning. He had been unwell for some time and breathed his last in Ranchi, according to family sources.
Soren, a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), had been a prominent voice in state politics and was known for his strong advocacy on education, tribal rights, and social justice. Over the years, he played an instrumental role in shaping Jharkhand’s education policies, especially for underprivileged and rural communities.
Leaders across party lines paid tribute to Soren’s contributions. Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep sorrow, calling him “a dedicated leader who always prioritized the welfare of students and the marginalized.” Political colleagues described him as approachable, empathetic, and deeply rooted in grassroots issues.
The minister’s passing has created a significant void in the state cabinet. His efforts to improve school infrastructure, strengthen higher education, and promote digital learning in rural areas were widely acknowledged.
Soren is survived by his family, and details of his last rites are expected to be announced soon. Flags at government buildings are being flown at half-mast in his honor.
Jharkhand has declared a day of state mourning to pay tribute to the late leader.
