Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India have suffered a major setback ahead of the Test series against Sri Lanka, with fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah ruled out after failing to recover completely from a knee injury.

Bumrah sustained the injury during the ODI series against England and continues to experience discomfort despite undergoing rehabilitation and fitness assessments at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The medical team has decided not to risk the senior pacer, keeping in mind India's busy international schedule. Selectors are now expected to name either Auqib Nabi or Yash Thakur as his replacement.

India's injury concerns have deepened with Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana already ruled out, while Washington Sundar will miss at least the opening Test. The two-match Test series against Sri Lanka begins on August 15 in Galle, with the second Test starting on August 23 in Colombo.

Bumrah's absence is a significant blow to India's pace attack as the team looks to overcome multiple injury setbacks ahead of the crucial Test series in Sri Lanka.
