Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have issued an orange alert following continuous heavy rainfall across several districts, raising fears of flood-like conditions. The Meteorological Department has warned that the downpour is likely to persist over the next 48 hours, with both plains and higher reaches expected to receive significant precipitation.
Reports suggest that low-lying areas have already witnessed waterlogging, while streams and rivers are swelling due to the relentless rains. In Srinagar and surrounding regions, residents have expressed concern as several roads remain submerged, disrupting normal movement. Meanwhile, in hilly districts, the risk of landslides has prompted authorities to advise people to avoid unnecessary travel.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local administration are on standby, with relief teams deployed in vulnerable zones. Schools in some districts have been asked to remain closed as a precautionary measure. Officials have also appealed to the public to stay alert, avoid venturing near water bodies, and follow advisories closely.
The heavy rainfall has also impacted electricity and communication lines in certain areas, further complicating the situation. Farmers in rural belts worry about potential crop damage if the showers continue.
With forecasts indicating more intense showers in the coming days, the administration has urged residents to remain vigilant while ensuring that emergency services are prepared to respond quickly in case of worsening conditions.
