External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday, underlining India’s commitment to maintaining strong ties with Russia despite growing global uncertainties. The meeting comes at a time when international trade tensions have been heightened, particularly after former US President Donald Trump signaled fresh tariff measures.

During the talks, both sides discussed energy cooperation, defense projects, and expanding trade in local currencies to reduce dependency on the dollar. Jaishankar emphasized that the long-standing India Russia partnership continues to be a key pillar of New Delhi’s foreign policy, rooted in mutual trust and strategic interests.

Putin welcomed India’s consistent engagement with Moscow, noting that the two countries have managed to safeguard their partnership even amid shifting global alignments. He also highlighted the importance of upcoming high-level meetings to further deepen collaboration in technology, investment, and regional security.
