Jagapathi Babu Responds to Criticism of Telugu Cinema, Defends Industry

Veteran actor Jagapathi Babu has responded sharply to criticism that Telugu cinema has become repetitive and dominated by nepotism. Speaking at a recent media interaction, the actor said that those who find the industry “boring” should simply avoid watching its films rather than dismissing the entire creative space.

The comments come amid ongoing debates about the influence of film families in Telugu cinema, with critics arguing that opportunities for newcomers remain limited. Jagapathi Babu, however, rejected the idea that nepotism alone defines the industry, stressing that the Telugu film sector continues to produce diverse stories and talented actors.

“Every industry has its own strengths and weaknesses,” he said, pointing out that box office trends show strong audience support for mainstream entertainers. He argued that viewers ultimately decide the success or failure of a film, and that the industry has always evolved in line with changing audience expectations.

The actor, who has worked in Telugu films for over three decades and gained recognition in Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi cinema as well, maintained that criticism should be constructive. He noted that dismissing an entire industry undermines the efforts of thousands of technicians, writers, and artists who contribute to filmmaking.

His remarks have sparked a mixed reaction online, with some defending his stance while others insisting that nepotism remains a barrier for fresh talent. The debate reflects a wider conversation about representation, creativity, and fairness in the Indian film industry.
