Jagapathi Babu on Nepotism Debate in Telugu Cinema: ‘If You Find It Boring, Don’t Watch’

Senior Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu has pushed back against criticism that Telugu cinema has become monotonous and dominated by nepotism. Addressing questions on the subject, the actor remarked that those who find films “boring” should simply refrain from watching instead of dismissing the entire industry.

The debate on nepotism in Telugu films has resurfaced in recent years, with several voices claiming that established film families continue to dominate opportunities. Critics argue that this leaves limited space for emerging actors and fresh talent. Responding to these concerns, Jagapathi Babu said that while challenges exist, audiences still drive the industry’s choices, as box office collections reflect what viewers want.

“Cinema is shaped by audience preferences,” he explained, adding that it is unfair to ignore the contributions of countless technicians, writers, and actors who work beyond the limelight. He stressed that Telugu cinema continues to evolve, experimenting with different genres and styles, while also catering to popular demand for mainstream entertainers.

Jagapathi Babu, who has acted in more than 150 films and established his presence across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi cinema, maintained that constructive criticism is welcome but sweeping generalisations hurt the industry’s image.

His comments have generated discussion among fans and film enthusiasts, with some agreeing with his defence while others reiterated the need to provide greater space for newcomers. The exchange highlights the continuing tension between tradition, star power, and fresh voices in the Indian film industry.
