Bollywood power couple Jackie and Ayesha Shroff executed a financial 'masterstroke' by investing in Sony TV during its India launch in 1995. Ayesha Shroff, a former Miss Young India and producer, played a pivotal role, forming Jackie Shroff Entertainment Limited which acquired a stake in Sony Entertainment Television.
Ayesha described the experience as "fantastic," detailing how their team, combining Jackie's stardom with business and tech expertise, pursued Sony for a year. A grand Bollywood party, suggested by Ayesha, proved crucial. Held at RG’s club on Marine Drive, the star-studded event impressed Sony executives, leading to the contract being signed the following day.
This savvy investment, hailed by Ayesha as their 'best investment,' saw a modest Rs 1 lakh grow to an astounding Rs 100 crore in 15 years. The couple eventually exited their 15-year partnership with the channel at a significant profit. Despite later facing financial challenges due to the 2002 film Boom, Ayesha maintains she has no regrets, calling the film "ahead of its time".
