Iran to Decide Use of Unfrozen Assets as Hormuz Control Holds

News Desk - Iran has said it will determine how to use its unfrozen assets, insisting the funds remain under Tehran’s control as technical talks with Washington wrapped up in Switzerland amid the wider West Asia crisis.

Tehran’s position on the assets is consistent with its earlier line that the money is not a foreign grant but Iran’s own resources, to be managed by the appropriate Iranian authorities and used for national needs. In recent weeks, Iranian officials have also pressed for the release of a large share of frozen funds as part of any broader understanding with Washington, including demands that the money be transferred in stages or placed fully at Iran’s disposal.

At the same time, Iran has reinforced its claim over the Strait of Hormuz, saying the waterway is under Iranian oversight and that ships must coordinate with Iranian authorities before transiting. Iranian statements have warned that foreign commercial and military vessels could be targeted if they ignore those rules, showing that Tehran intends to keep a tight grip on one of the world’s most sensitive energy routes.

Iran’s message on both the assets and Hormuz is the same: Tehran wants to control the terms of any deal, not merely receive concessions. That keeps the diplomatic track alive, but also leaves the region vulnerable to fresh tension if the understandings are not implemented as Iran expects.
