Iran Rejects 45 Day Ceasefire Proposal, Demands Permanent End to Hostilities

Desk Correspondent , Tehran - Iran has formally rejected a 45 day ceasefire proposal floated by mediators including Pakistan, the United States, and regional powers, insisting instead on a permanent end to the US‑Israel war against Tehran. Iranian state media reported that Tehran conveyed its rejection in a ten‑point response, calling the temporary truce “unacceptable” and demanding a full halt to hostilities along with guarantees of no further attacks, lifting of sanctions, and reconstruction support.

The 45 day plan, presented through Pakistan and discussed with China, Russia, France, and Gulf states, aimed to pause fighting and create space for broader peace talks, including safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei dismissed the terms as “excessive,” arguing that Tehran will only accept a definitive resolution that prevents any recurrence of conflict, rather than a short‑term pause that could allow the US and Israel to regroup. Iranian officials have emphasised that the country holds the “upper hand” and will continue retaliation until its political leadership deems the war concluded on its terms.

The rejection comes hours before President Trump’s 48 hour ultimatum on the Strait of Hormuz expires on Tuesday evening, raising fears of imminent US strikes on Iranian infrastructure. Tehran’s hardline stance has frustrated diplomatic efforts by major powers and Gulf mediators, who see the temporary ceasefire as a critical first step toward de escalation, while Iran views it as a tactical delay rather than a genuine peace commitment. As the war grinds on, the impasse could trigger further military escalation, prolonging the regional crisis and disrupting global energy markets.
