India has finalized its men’s freestyle wrestling squad for the Asian Games 2026 after a series of competitive selection trials conducted by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The final lineup brings together a blend of seasoned international medalists and promising young wrestlers, highlighting the country’s growing strength in the sport.
Olympic bronze medallist Aman Sehrawat headlines the squad after securing his spot with a strong showing in the 57kg category. He is joined by world championship medal contender Deepak Punia ,who once again proved his consistency in the higher weight divisions. Another key name in the team is Sujeet Kalkal who continues to maintain top form in the 65kg category and is seen as one of India’s strongest medal prospects.
Veteran wrestler Sunil Kumar also earned selection and is expected to bring valuable experience to the squad during high-pressure bouts at the continental event.
The trials, held at the Sports Authority of India centre in Lucknow, saw participation from over 150 wrestlers across multiple weight categories. According to officials, the competition was intense, with several close matches deciding the final selection list.
With the squad now confirmed, India’s freestyle wrestling team will enter an intensive preparation phase, including international exposure tournaments and national training camps ahead of the Asian Games.
The Asian Games 2026 will feature top wrestling nations from across the continent, and India will aim to convert its strong lineup into a significant medal haul.
