The Union Cabinet has approved India’s official bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, identifying Ahmedabad as the proposed venue. The government said the city has the required world-class sports infrastructure, including newly built stadiums and training facilities, making it a strong contender.
If successful, this will mark the return of the Games to India after two decades, with New Delhi last hosting the event in 2010. Officials highlighted that Ahmedabad’s sports ecosystem, connectivity, and accommodation capacity align with international requirements for a multi-sport tournament of this scale.
The decision is being viewed as part of India’s larger push to position itself as a global sports hub. Sports authorities believe hosting the Games could boost tourism, infrastructure growth, and youth participation in athletics.
The Commonwealth Games Federation is expected to review India’s proposal in the coming months, after which a final decision will be made on the host city.
