Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India's para athletes emerged as one of the biggest success stories of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, producing their best-ever campaign with a record haul of seven medals and rewriting the country's history in para sport.

The 28-member Indian para contingent won three gold, two silver and two bronze medals, equalling the combined medal tally from all previous Commonwealth Games editions. The campaign featured standout performances in para athletics and para powerlifting, with athletes like Sharmila, Dilip Mahadu Gavit and Soman Rana winning gold medals, while several others added silver and bronze to India's tally.

India also ended a 20-year wait for a para athletics medal at the Commonwealth Games and set both a Games record and an Asian record during the competition. The remarkable performance highlighted the growing strength and depth of Indian para sport on the international stage.
