Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - India delivered its biggest performance of the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, winning a record 16 medals in a single day to surge from 10th to fourth in the medal standings. The haul took India's overall tally to 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze, with boxing leading the charge.

Indian boxers scripted history by winning 10 medals, including a record seven golds, the highest-ever boxing medal haul by any nation in a single Commonwealth Games. Gold medals came from Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal, while Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh and Narender Berwal secured silver medals.

India also enjoyed success in athletics, judo and para-sports. Praveen Chithravel won silver and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran claimed bronze in the men's triple jump, while Gulveer Singh became the first Indian track athlete to win two medals in a single Commonwealth Games edition after adding a 5,000m bronze to his earlier 10,000m silver. Judoka Unnati Sharma won bronze, while para-athletes Soman Rana and Shubham Juyal completed a historic one-two finish in the men's F57 shot put with gold and silver respectively.

With only the final day's events remaining, India is likely to add a few more medals and is set to finish among the top nations in Glasgow. Despite not matching its medal tally from Birmingham 2022 due to fewer sports being included, India's record-breaking performances have made the campaign a memorable success.
