India-Japan Summit 2026: Japan focused on investing in India, says Piyush Goyal

Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - At the India-Japan Strategic Dialogue, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said Japan is focused on investing in India as both countries look to deepen trade, technology and strategic cooperation. The event also featured Daikin India CMD Kanwal Jeet Jawa, India’s Ambassador to Japan Nagma Mallick and other business and policy voices.

The summit is being used to push a much wider economic and strategic agenda between India and Japan, with both sides focused on semiconductors, supply chains, advanced manufacturing, investment flows and economic security. According to reports, Japan is keen to invest more deeply in India, while Indian officials are trying to convert that interest into durable industrial capacity, technology transfer and jobs. Piyush Goyal’s remarks at the event framed Japan as a serious long-term investor in India, and the presence of business leaders and diplomats underlined that this is not just a diplomatic visit but also a major commercial engagement.

The talks are also aimed at reducing dependence on any single geography for critical production and inputs, especially in sectors seen as strategically important. Reports say the summit is expected to produce outcome documents on economic security and artificial intelligence, which would give the partnership a more concrete structure for cooperation in research, industrial applications, digital public infrastructure, skill development and responsible technology governance. In that sense, the India-Japan summit is being presented as a platform to turn shared strategic concerns into practical cooperation, particularly in technology, resilient supply chains and future-ready investment.

The live forum suggests Japan’s focus is less on symbolism and more on putting capital into India’s next-wave sectors. With semiconductors, AI and supply-chain resilience on the table, the summit is being presented as a chance to convert strategic trust into concrete investment.
