Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said the long-pending BRICS memorandum on cooperation in standardisation would be mutually beneficial and a win-win for all. His remarks came as India hosted the 5th meeting of the BRICS National Standards Bodies.

Joshi said a common standardisation framework would help BRICS countries deepen cooperation and make trade and product rules more aligned. He argued that finalising the memorandum would strengthen collaboration across the bloc and support smoother movement of goods and services.

The proposed agreement is expected to improve quality infrastructure, consumer confidence and product safety. It could also help BRICS members build more resilient supply chains by reducing differences in standards and technical regulations.

India’s hosting of the meeting reflects its push for greater practical cooperation within BRICS. Standardisation is seen as an area where common rules can make trade easier while also helping businesses and regulators work more efficiently.

Joshi’s message presents standardisation as a shared economic opportunity rather than a narrow technical issue. If the memorandum is signed, it could become an important step toward closer BRICS cooperation and more predictable trade across member states.
