Ananya Lohia , England - After clinching the 50-over World Cup last year, the Indian women’s cricket team has now shifted its focus to the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Women in Blue started their preparations on a strong note with a dominant victory in the first T20 International against England earlier this week and will now look to seal the three-match series in Bristol on Saturday.
India delivered a commanding performance in the series opener, defeating England by 88 runs after posting a total of over 180 runs. While stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana had a forgettable outing with a first-ball duck, Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues stepped up with brilliant half-centuries to guide the visitors to a massive total. Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the first game, is expected to return and lead the side in the second T20 International. India’s bowlers also impressed in the opener, with Nandni Sharma picking up three wickets while Kranti Gaud scalped two to restrict England to just 150. Following the win, Mandhana praised Yastika for making a strong comeback after eight months away from the national side and also lauded the calmness shown by the bowlers under pressure.
The second T20 Iternational between India Women and England Women will be played on Saturday, May 30, at the County Ground in Bristol. The match will begin at 7 PM IST, while the toss will take place at 6:30 PM. Fans can watch the live broadcast on the Sony Sports Network, while live streaming will be available on the SonyLiv app and website.
