India is moving forward with a major defense procurement plan to acquire 114 additional Dassault Rafale jets from France, in what could become one of the largest fighter aircraft deals in the country’s military modernization history. The proposal is part of India’s broader effort to upgrade its air combat capabilities and replace aging platforms in the Indian Air Force.

The aircraft are manufactured by Dassault Aviation and are widely regarded as among the most advanced multirole fighter jets in the world. They are capable of performing air superiority, ground attack, reconnaissance, and nuclear deterrence missions, making them a highly versatile addition to any air force fleet.

India already operates 36 Rafale jets, which were inducted in phases and are currently deployed at key strategic airbases. These aircraft have significantly enhanced the operational strength of the Indian Air Force and are considered a crucial part of its modern combat fleet. The new proposal aims to expand this capability on a much larger scale.

If finalized, the deal is expected to involve extensive discussions on pricing, delivery schedules, maintenance support, and potential technology collaboration. Defence officials indicate that the acquisition would also strengthen long-term strategic ties between India and France, particularly in the areas of aerospace and defense cooperation.

Experts suggest that the addition of 114 Rafales would significantly boost India’s air dominance and deterrence capabilities amid evolving regional security challenges. However, the agreement will still require multiple stages of approval before it can be formally signed and executed.
