Hyderabad, August 23 — A chilling crime has shocked Hyderabad after police arrested a taxi driver for allegedly murdering his pregnant wife, dismembering her body, and disposing of the remains in a river.
According to police, the accused, identified as 32-year-old Mohammed Aslam, was involved in frequent quarrels with his wife, Sameera Begum. Investigators revealed that Sameera, who was six months pregnant, had been pressuring her husband to reduce alcohol consumption and contribute more responsibly to household expenses.
On August 20, following another heated argument, Aslam allegedly strangled Sameera to death at their home. In an attempt to conceal the crime, he is said to have chopped the body into multiple parts before placing them in plastic bags. The bags were later thrown into the Musi river under the cover of night.
Police began investigating after Sameera’s family reported her missing. During questioning, inconsistencies in Aslam’s statements raised suspicion. On sustained interrogation, he confessed to the crime, officers said.
Rescue teams have since recovered some body parts from the river, while efforts are ongoing to trace the remaining remains. The accused has been booked under charges of murder and destruction of evidence.
The incident has triggered outrage among locals, with women’s rights groups demanding stricter preventive measures and speedy trial in such cases. Authorities described the crime as a “heinous act” and assured that justice would be delivered without delay.
