Desk Correspondent , Howrah - A wave of shock and anger has swept through the Jagacha area of Howrah following a barbaric act of animal cruelty that took place late Friday night. Five helpless, newborn puppies were allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire in the Hatpukur locality, leading to their painful death. The innocent animals had been whimpering due to the biting winter cold, which reportedly annoyed some residents living nearby. This heartless reaction to the natural cries of newborn animals has left the entire neighborhood in a state of disbelief and mourning.

The mother dog, who desperately tried to save her litter from the flames, also suffered burn injuries during the attack and is currently being treated. Local residents and animal lovers discovered the charred remains of the puppies the following morning, sparking immediate protests and calls for justice. People in the community are devastated, describing the puppies as harmless creatures that only needed a bit of warmth to survive the night. The mother dog is reportedly traumatized and continues to search for her lost puppies in the area where the incident occurred.

The local police have launched a full investigation into the matter and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding streets to identify the suspects. Preliminary reports suggest that a group of individuals was seen near the spot with a container of fuel shortly before the fire broke out. Authorities have promised strict action against those found guilty of this heinous crime under animal protection laws. Meanwhile, animal welfare groups have stepped in to provide medical care for the injured mother and are demanding that the culprits be arrested without delay to prevent such cruelty in the future.
