On October 22, 2025, during President Droupadi Murmu’s four-day official visit to Kerala, an unexpected incident occurred when her helicopter landed at Pramadam Stadium. A portion of the newly constructed helipad tarmac partially collapsed, causing the helicopter's wheels to sink into the softened surface. The President was en route to offer prayers at the Sabarimala temple.
Emergency personnel, including police and fire department staff, promptly responded to the situation. They manually assisted in moving the helicopter away from the sunken area, ensuring the President's safety. Despite the scare, no injuries or threats were reported, and the incident was swiftly managed.
The Kerala Police Chief, Ravada Chandrasekhar, confirmed that there was no security lapse during the visit. The Public Works Department had prepared the helipad as per standard guidelines. The incident is under investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and to prevent future occurrences.
