Mumbai witnessed severe disruption on Monday as heavy rainfall led to flooding in several areas of the city. The downpour caused delays in flight operations at the airport and forced the suspension of services on some local train routes, leaving thousands of commuters stranded.
Officials confirmed that nearly 400 residents were evacuated from low lying areas after the Mithi River swelled beyond danger levels. Rescue teams, including the NDRF and local authorities, were deployed to shift people to safer locations.
Road traffic was also badly hit, with long jams reported across major routes. Several schools declared a holiday due to waterlogging. Power cuts were reported in a few parts of the city as a precautionary measure.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted more heavy showers over the next 24 hours and issued warnings for possible flooding in vulnerable areas. Civic authorities have urged people to stay indoors unless necessary and avoid travelling through waterlogged zones.
The situation is being closely monitored, with disaster response teams on standby to manage any further emergencies.
