Ananya Lohia , Bengaluru - The India Meteorological Department has issued fresh rain alerts across Karnataka, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds over the next 24 hours, with coastal districts expected to be the worst affected.
According to the IMD, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds of up to 60 kmph. The weather department has warned of possible flooding, uprooted trees, power outages and disruptions to transport in several parts of the state. Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kolar, Ramanagara and other districts of South Interior Karnataka are also expected to witness light to moderate rainfall, cloudy skies and gusty winds.
Authorities have cautioned that waterlogging, traffic congestion and fallen trees may affect normal life. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel through flooded areas, stay away from rivers and streams, secure outdoor objects and follow official weather advisories as the southwest monsoon continues to intensify across the state.
With heavy rain forecast to continue, authorities remain on alert and have urged citizens to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety and minimise weather-related disruptions.
