Shopkeepers in Old Delhi’s famous kite market report brisk sales, with both children and adults eager to get their hands on these themed kites. The demand has led to artisans working extra hours to meet orders, with stalls stacked high in vibrant colours and unique prints.
Apart from the themed kites, traditional tricolour designs remain a staple, symbolising patriotism and unity. Many kite enthusiasts say they plan to blend tradition with trend — flying a mix of classic Indian styles and pop-culture favourites.
Kite flying has long been a part of Independence Day festivities in Delhi, turning the skyline into a canvas of colours every August 15. With creative designs dominating the markets this year, traders expect an even more spectacular display in 2025.
