Desk Correspondent , Mumbai - India have unveiled their squad for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressing strong confidence in the team’s ability to go all the way. Despite a few challenging selection decisions, the skipper believes the squad has the potential to lift the trophy.
Speaking after the squad announcement, Harmanpreet did not hold back in backing her team as title contenders. “I will definitely rate this team as favorites. The team we picked today has the caliber to become champions,” she said, while also maintaining a balanced approach. “No pressure, no overconfidence. T20 cricket is about playing good cricket.”
The Indian squad features a mix of experience and youth, including key players like Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Richa Ghosh. The selectors have also included promising names such as Bharti Fulmali, Shree Charani and Kranti Gaud, aiming to build a dynamic and aggressive unit. One of the major talking points remains the absence of all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, who is currently sidelined due to injury. Harmanpreet admitted that replacing her has been difficult but highlighted the return of Radha Yadav as a valuable addition to the squad’s balance.
The selection panel also made a bold call by leaving out Harleen Deol from the T20 setup, opting instead for Bharti Fulmali to strengthen the middle order with a more attacking approach.
Reflecting on recent performances, including a series loss in South Africa, the captain stressed the importance of improving in crucial phases like the powerplay and middle overs. She also backed Jemimah Rodrigues, citing the importance of consistency and long-term trust in players.
India will kick off their campaign against Pakistan in Birmingham on June 14, as they chase their maiden T20 World Cup title. With a confident captain, a balanced squad, and lessons learned from recent setbacks, Harmanpreet Kaur’s India will look to turn belief into silverware on the global stage.
