Ranit Kr. Singh , New Delhi – Widespread power outages disrupted electricity supply across several parts of Gurugram from Thursday night to Friday evening. Triggered by heavy rain, network overloading, fallen tree branches, and scheduled maintenance work, the prolonged blackouts severely impacted both Old Gurugram and newer sectors. To address persistent overloading issues, discom officials implemented a planned four-hour shutdown across 17 residential and industrial areas to install an additional transformer at the Sector 9 substation.
The outages heavily affected localities including Sheetla Colony, Ashok Vihar, sectors along the Dwarka Expressway, and multiple blocks within DLF Phases I, II, and III. In the DLF areas, a scheduled maintenance shutdown of the 66 kV substation in Q-Block cut power for roughly an hour and a half on Friday evening. Meanwhile, upgrading work at the Sector 9 substation disrupted supply until noon on Thursday for areas like Sector 9A, New Colony, Basai, and its industrial zone.
Frustrated residents reported that prolonged outages have become a daily occurrence during the ongoing heatwave, signaling severe strain on the local electrical grid. Many complained about a complete lack of communication from Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (DHBVN), noting that field officials kept their phones switched off during the crises. Residents in Ashok Vihar endured an all-night blackout that lasted until 6:00 AM without receiving any official updates regarding fault causes or restoration timelines.
