Shivani Jaiswal, New Delhi-
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving prison sentences in rape and murder cases, has been granted a 30-day parole once again by the authorities. He is currently lodged in a jail in Haryana and has been given temporary release under the parole rules.
Officials said the parole has been approved following the prescribed legal procedures, though the exact reason for the grant has not been publicly detailed. This is not the first time he has received parole or furlough in recent years, as he has been temporarily released on multiple occasions under similar provisions.
The decision has triggered political and public debate in several parts of the state, with critics questioning the repeated granting of parole to a convicted offender in serious criminal cases. Supporters of the move argue that parole is a legal right available under the prison system.
Authorities have tightened security arrangements and set conditions for his release, and he will be required to return to prison after the completion of the parole period.
