Ananya Lohia , New Delhi - The much-loved family drama Gullak has returned with its fifth season, bringing a major change as actor Anant V Joshi replaces Vaibhav Raj Gupta as the eldest Mishra son, Annu. The recasting has become one of the biggest talking points among fans, with the cast acknowledging the pressure of continuing a character deeply loved by audiences.
Anant revealed that the transition involved extensive readings and discussions with the makers before the decision was finalized. Stepping into a character deeply woven into the hearts of viewers is no small feat. Anant V Joshi, fresh off acclaimed performances in 12th Fail and Maamla Legal Hai, admitted that while there was undeniable apprehension, the team undertook a rigorous preparation process long before the cameras started rolling. Rather than imitating his predecessor, he chose to evolve Annu's character to reflect the challenges of adulthood while preserving the qualities fans cherish. Drawing from his own middle-class upbringing, Anant said joining Gullak felt more exciting than intimidating. Co-star Harsh Mayar admitted the cast faced significant pressure this season, describing the change as a "very big" one that required everyone to give their best performances. He also highlighted the effort put into building a natural brotherly bond with Anant through extensive discussions and preparation.
Harsh urged viewers to keep an open mind about the new casting choice, expressing confidence that the show's emotional moments, humour, and family dynamics remain intact. Gullak Season 5 is now streaming on Sony LIV.
