Ranit Kr. Singh , Gandhinagar - In a drastic probe the Gujrat police have arrested over 300 illegal Bangladeshi nationals and detained more than 780 suspects for interrogation. A statewide crackdown is underway by the name ‘Operation Delta Hunt’ executing simultaneous actions across multiple cities and districts. According to an official government release, the multi-agency operation targeted individuals staying without valid authorization. The initial arrests comprise 103 men, 188 women, and 71 children. Ahmedabad city recorded the highest number of arrests at 155, followed by Surat city with 84, Ahmedabad rural with 34, East Kutch-Gandhidham with 13, and Bharuch with 12, with further detentions reported across several neighboring districts.
The massive anti-infiltration drive relied heavily on advanced data analytics and tight physical security. Investigators compiled a surveillance database of more than 6,200 suspected Bangladeshi nationals by tracking Indian mobile numbers that maintained active communication with numbers in Bangladesh. Acting on these inputs, over 30 specialized teams launched simultaneous urban raids while setting up highway, railway, and bus station checkpoints, successfully intercepting 18 suspects attempting to flee. Early findings indicate that many of the detainees crossed into India through West Bengal villages several years ago, subsequently using localized trafficking and document-forgery networks to secure fake voter identification cards and local state documents.
Official statements from state and police leadership outlined the operation's strategic origin and upcoming judicial procedures. Crime Branch Joint Commissioner Sharad Singhal confirmed the drive was planned after high-level briefings on unauthorized entries chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who warned that strict legal action will target anyone providing shelter, employment, or fake documents to illegal entrants. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik noted the large-scale deployment of specialized local units and the Crime Branch, while Director General of Police KLN Rao highlighted the technical role of telecom data from the Cyber Centre of Excellence, ensuring that all processed individuals face deportation under applicable legal procedures.
