Ranit Kr. Singh , Mumbai — A child rights group, Mahatma Phule Samaj Seva Mandal, has urged authorities to launch a round-the-clock WhatsApp helpline integrated with Google Maps to fast-track the rescue of abused and trafficked children. In a letter sent Thursday to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Maharashtra state commission, the organization demanded mandatory rescue operations within 24 to 48 hours of receiving geotagged evidence. The proposed system aims to eliminate current procedural delays that frequently allow employers and traffickers to shift victims before rescue teams can arrive.

The initiative, dubbed the "Digital Action Pattern," would allow ordinary citizens to act as "child rights protectors" by instantly reporting violations through their mobile phones. Under the proposal, citizens could send geotagged photographs, videos, and live locations of children facing abuse or forced labor directly to an official, round-the-clock government WhatsApp number. Once received, this precise Google Maps data would be immediately forwarded to local police, the Labour Department, and the Child Welfare Committee to facilitate raids and rescue operations within the critical "golden hour."

Organization president Pramod Zinjade highlighted that the current system is too complex and time-consuming for common citizens, particularly in rural areas, noting that photos cannot be sent to the existing 1098 helpline and filing portal complaints is cumbersome. Zinjade stressed that the proposed national model would integrate the helpline directly with the NCPCR control room and district-level authorities, including district collectors and police superintendents. Additionally, the proposal strongly emphasizes maintaining whistleblower confidentiality, ensuring that citizens can safely report child abuse without fear of local pressure or retaliation from traffickers.
