In Delhi, the price of 24-karat gold fell by about ₹2,400 to ₹1,32,400 per 10 g on Saturday, after touching a record high of ~₹1,34,800 the previous day. For 99.5 % purity, the price dropped to ~₹1,31,800 per 10 g after peaking at ~₹1,34,200. Meanwhile, silver prices continued their slide for a second day, down ~₹7,000 to ~₹1,70,000 per kg (inclusive of taxes).
Despite the price correction, demand during the festive period around Dhanteras remained robust. According to traders, consumers spent an estimated ₹1 lakh crore on jewellery, bullion and other items during the festival season. The strong demand reflects the deeply ingrained tradition of buying precious metals during this auspicious time.
Over the past year, gold has surged by roughly 62.65 % — rising from ~₹81,400 per 10 g at Dhanteras in 2024 to ~₹1,32,400 now. Jewellery demand was especially pronounced among younger buyers opting for lighter designs, as well as customers securing heavier pieces ahead of the winter wedding season.
