Ananya Lohia , Delhi - India captain Shubman Gill's availability for the second ODI against England remains uncertain after suffering cramps during the series opener at Edgbaston. His absence could hand vice-captain Shreyas Iyer a crucial opportunity to lead the team.

Gill played a match-winning knock of 80 off 75 balls in the first ODI before leaving the field with cramps. While India comfortably completed the chase, his fitness has now become a major concern ahead of the second match in Cardiff. If ruled out, vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is expected to take over the captaincy, with senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli providing experience and guidance.

India could also bring Ishan Kishan into the playing eleven to replace Gill at the top of the order. However, Gill's absence would not only weaken the batting line-up but also test India's leadership transition as the team builds towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.
