News Desk : Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been banned from tennis for four years after an independent tribunal found her guilty of refusing to comply with an anti-doping test. The ruling, announced by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), means the Czech player will remain suspended until June 2030 unless she successfully appeals.
The ITIA charged Vondrousova after she allegedly denied a doping control officer entry to her residence in December 2025, preventing the completion of an out-of-competition test. The tribunal ruled that she had provided no compelling justification for refusing the test, which under anti-doping regulations is treated as seriously as a positive doping result. During the hearing, Vondrousova argued that she acted out of concerns for her personal safety and mental wellbeing. She claimed the officer arrived late at night and failed to properly identify themselves, leaving her uncomfortable about allowing entry.
The ITIA defended its testing procedures, stressing that anti-doping controls are essential to maintaining fair competition. Chief executive Karen Moorhouse stated that testing personnel are trained professionals who carry identification and that athletes have ways to verify their credentials if concerns arise.
The ban marks a major setback for Vondrousova, who made history in 2023 by becoming the first unseeded woman in the Open Era to win the Wimbledon singles title. Currently ranked No. 122 in the world, the 26-year-old retains the right to challenge the decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
