Bengaluru police have lodged a case following a series of derogatory posts on social media targeting Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The complaint was filed after the objectionable content began circulating online, drawing criticism and concerns over the use of digital platforms to spread defamatory remarks against political leaders.
Officials said the FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. The investigation has been handed over to the cyber crime division, which is working to trace the origin of the posts and identify those responsible for creating and sharing them.
Police have urged citizens to use social media responsibly and warned of strict action against those misusing online platforms to spread hatred or defamatory content. Meanwhile, supporters of the Chief Minister condemned the incident, calling it an attempt to malign his image.
Authorities said further details will be shared once initial findings from the cyber team are available.
