Desk Correspondent , New Delhi - In a major announcement for the chess world, FIDE has officially invited bids to host the upcoming World Championship match between D Gukesh and Javokhir Sindarov. However, the governing body has confirmed that the match is provisionally scheduled between November 23 and December 17, 2026.
FIDE further listed out the basic provisions of the match. The total duration of the event is projected to be 25 days, with regulations set to be approved by July 1, 2026. FIDE estimates a total budget of USD 8.5 million and a minimum prize fund of USD 2.5 million has been setup. The world governing body has invited cities and national federations to submit bids, triggering a competitive race to host one of the most anticipated matches in recent years. The selection process will take into account financial strength, infrastructure readiness, and the ability to deliver a world-class sporting event.

Singapore was one of three bidders for the match, with the other two – Chennai and New Delhi, both being located in India. The match was held at the Equarius Hotel at Resorts World Sentosa and Google was the main sponsor.
