Expert clears doubts on menstruation and explains myths about irregular periods and PCOS

A health expert has addressed common misconceptions surrounding menstruation, including the belief that irregular periods always mean polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). She explained that while PCOS can cause irregular cycles, other factors such as stress, sudden weight changes, thyroid issues, and lifestyle habits may also affect menstrual regularity.

The expert highlighted four other myths. One common myth is that painful periods are normal for every woman, but she clarified that severe pain may indicate underlying health issues and should not be ignored. Another misconception is that women should avoid exercising during their cycle; however, light physical activity can actually help reduce cramps and improve mood.

She also dismissed the belief that menstruation leads to significant blood loss, explaining that the average amount lost is much less than what many people assume. Additionally, she pointed out that periods do not weaken immunity, and women can continue daily routines with proper care.

The expert urged women to seek medical advice when cycles are consistently irregular or accompanied by severe discomfort. She emphasized that open discussions and awareness are essential to break taboos and promote menstrual health.
