Egypt Files FIFA Complaint After Argentina World Cup Defeat

Ananya Lohia , Mexico - The Egyptian Football Association has lodged an official complaint with FIFA following Argentina's dramatic 3-2 victory in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, alleging controversial refereeing decisions and misuse of the VAR system.

The controversy centres on the disallowed goal scored by Mostafa Ziko in the 58th minute after a VAR review ruled a foul in the build-up. Egypt also claimed they were denied a penalty late in the match, moments before Enzo Fernandez scored the stoppage-time winner that sent Argentina into the quarterfinals. In its official statement, the Egyptian Football Association said it "cannot remain silent" over the officiating and has reportedly demanded an investigation into referee François Letexier and his team.

The federation has also requested that the French refereeing crew be removed from the remainder of the tournament. The dramatic match saw Argentina overturn a two-goal deficit, with Lionel Messi leading the comeback to keep the defending champions' World Cup title defence alive.

With Egypt formally approaching FIFA over the officiating, the controversy surrounding one of the tournament's most dramatic matches continues even after the final whistle.
