The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Sunday carried out searches at more than 20 locations across West Bengal as part of its probe into illegal sand mining.

According to officials, the raids were conducted in multiple districts and targeted individuals and entities suspected of being involved in unregulated mining and money laundering. Several documents, digital records and other evidence were reportedly seized during the operation.

Illegal sand mining has been a persistent issue in the state, raising concerns over environmental damage, loss of revenue, and alleged links to political and criminal networks. The ED’s action is seen as part of a broader effort to clamp down on the trade and track the flow of illicit money generated through it.

The investigation is ongoing, and further questioning of those connected to the case is expected in the coming days.
