Earth Day 2026: Nations Mark Our Power, Our Planet with Rallies and Science Events

Swapna Kumbar , Bengaluru - Nations across the world are marking Earth Day 2026 under the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” a rallying call for communities, governments, and individuals to recognise that the power to protect the environment lies in collective action and everyday choices. The slogan, promoted by EARTHDAY.ORG, emphasises community mobilisation, clean energy transition, and stronger environmental protections as tools to tackle climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. From street rallies and climate awareness marches to online campaigns and corporate sustainability drives, Earth Day 2026 is being framed not just as a day of reflection, but as a launchpad for long‑term, locally led environmental action.

In India, the National Science Centre in New Delhi is hosting a major educational event centred on the same theme, inviting students and science enthusiasts to participate in an open house environment focused on environmental stewardship. The programme features a popular science lecture on Antarctic exploration by a senior scientist from the Department of Space and ISRO, followed by an interactive quiz on environmental science and biodiversity. The exhibition and competitions are designed to link scientific curiosity with climate‑awareness, encouraging young people to see science as a practical force for planetary protection. Similar events are being held at other science centres and museums, underscoring a broader push to embed climate literacy in classrooms and public spaces.

Earth Day 2026 crystallises a growing recognition that meaningful environmental progress will not come from distant policy changes alone, but from empowered communities acting together. The “Our Power, Our Planet” theme reframes climate action as something local, tangible, and urgent not abstract or optional. By combining global rallies with grounded, science based education in places like the National Science Centre, the day aims to turn awareness into habit, and hope into a measurable commitment to protecting the air, water, and ecosystems on which human life depends.
