Fantasy sports platform Dream11 has reportedly decided to step down as the lead jersey sponsor of the Indian cricket team, creating a vacancy just ahead of the Asia Cup. The development comes as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to open the bidding process for a new sponsor.
According to reports, Dream11, which took over the rights in July 2023 after Byju’s exit, has chosen not to extend its association. The deal, estimated at around ₹358 crore for three years, saw the company’s logo prominently featured on Team India’s jerseys across formats.
With the Asia Cup and the subsequent home season approaching, the BCCI is expected to float a fresh tender inviting bids from interested companies. Industry insiders suggest the cricket board is likely to receive strong interest from sectors such as technology, fintech, and e-commerce, given the massive brand value of the Indian cricket team.
Jersey sponsorships have been among the most lucrative assets for the BCCI, often attracting record bids. Past sponsors have included global and domestic brands such as Sahara, Star India, OPPO, and Byju’s.
While Dream11 will continue its role as an official partner of the IPL, its decision to step away from Team India’s kit sponsorship reflects the shifting dynamics of sports sponsorship in India. The new sponsor is expected to be finalized before the Asia Cup begins, ensuring continuity in Team India’s branding.
