The price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in Delhi has been increased by ₹29 per 14.2-kg cylinder, with the revised rates coming into effect from this week. The adjustment takes the new price in the capital to approximately ₹942 per cylinder , up from the earlier ₹913.
According to officials, the revision has been implemented by state-run oil marketing companies as part of periodic price updates linked to global fuel cost fluctuations. This marks the second increase in the past few months, reflecting continued pressure from international energy markets and supply-related challenges.
The price hike applies only to domestic LPG cylinders used for household cooking, while commercial cylinder rates follow a separate pricing structure. Authorities noted that despite the increase, domestic LPG in India remains comparatively lower than international market rates, where prices are significantly higher.
The latest revision is expected to impact household budgets, particularly among middle- and lower-income families who rely heavily on subsidized cooking fuel. However, officials emphasized that the government continues to manage a large portion of the cost difference through subsidy support and pricing regulation.
Energy experts say that global crude oil and gas price volatility, along with currency fluctuations, are key factors influencing domestic LPG pricing. They also point out that such adjustments are periodically necessary to balance the financial burden on fuel suppliers and maintain supply stability.
Consumer groups have expressed concern over rising fuel expenses and urged authorities to explore additional relief measures if price hikes continue in the coming months.
The new rates are now applicable across Delhi and are expected to be mirrored in other parts of the country in subsequent revisions.
